EAA and Learn to Fly Day Set for May 18
EAA Members Encouraged to ‘Fly One’ During Annual International Learn to Fly Day

April 17, 2013 - EAA is asking all chapters and individual members to “Fly One” adult on May 18 - the fourth annual International Learn to Fly Day. Let’s expand participation in EAA’s Eagle Flights program and inspire people of all ages to follow their dreams of flight!
“If each chapter would provide just one Eagle Flight it would amount to more than 1,000 flights,” said Trevor Janz, EAA manager of chapters and Eagle Flights.
International Learn to Fly Day is an aviation community-wide effort to help people take the first step toward discovering the fun, freedom, and accomplishment of flight. EAA chapters have traditionally led the way on this day, and with the launch of EAA’s Eagle Flights program last July, they have another great reason to participate.
Young or old, there are many people out there who are fascinated by flight.
“I know a chapter member who built an airplane at age 80 and flew it for the first time at age 84. You’re never too old to learn how to fly!” Janz said.
Eagle Flight recipients receive a complimentary six-month trial EAA membership, which includes full membership benefits and six issues of Sport Aviation magazine. More importantly, the Eagle Flights program links them with mentor pilots, something that Janz said is crucial for the entire learning to fly process.
“That makes Eagle Flights a one-on-one experience,” Janz said. “We highly recommend that you have the Eagle Flight participant join your chapter and join the EAA aviation community. It will be this sense of community and support that will help them down the path of getting their pilot certificate.”
All EAA members with at least a current sport pilot certificate are eligible to fly Eagle Flights. About 600 Eagle Flights have been registered since the program’s inception a year ago.
Chapters hosting Learn to Fly Day events are encouraged to post information about their organized events to the EAA Calendar of Events.
