Gustave Whitehead Announcement
NAHA to make Gustave Whitehead Announcement
On Thursday, Aug. 13, the National Aviation Heritage Alliance (NAHA) will announce a new action aimed at improving access to aviation history in Connecticut, where state lawmakers have passed a law claiming Gustave Whitehead flew a powered airplane there on Aug. 14, 1901, two years before the Wright brothers’ first powered flights.
Connecticut lawmakers also have proposed legislation designating Aug. 14 as “Gustave Whitehead Day,” while other states and the federal government recognize Aug. 19, Orville Wright’s birthday, as National Aviation Day.
A media availability is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wright “B” Flyer Hangar at Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport, 10550 Springboro Pike in Miamisburg. Tony Sculimbrene, NAHA executive director, will be available for on-camera interviews at that time.
