Heaven's Landing Celebration

Heaven’s Landing Invites Public to Celebration Airshow & Concert June 25A year ago, Clayton, county seat of northeast Georgia’s Rabun County, planned a “Skywalk Celebration,” a festival commemorating the 40th anniversary of hi-wire great Karl Wallenda’s crossing of nearby Tallulah Gorge, and asked Heaven’s Landing, its picturesque fly-In community, if they could provide the venue and a fly-over for the finale of the concert. Mike Ciochetti, who heads up Heaven’s Landing, said, “We turned that fly-by into a whole airshow, and it went really well. Everybody had fun.”It went so well, in fact, that this year, Heaven’s Landing is going to host a second-year event. Last year, it was an adjunct to the county’s celebration; this year, Ciochetti says, “Everybody had such a good time that we’re making it an annual event, sponsored by Heaven’s Landing. We’re providing something for the county to do, as well as for our guests and neighbors.”Former International and three-time National Aerobatic Champion and internationally famous movie stunt pilot, Patty Wagstaff, will headline the airshow in her Extra 300, and other fantastic acts, including Gary Ward, Mark Sorenson, and Clemens Kuhlig and Skipper Heil.Musical talent will include Emmy Award Winner, Vaughn Skow, and sister duo, Flyte Three, provided by The Flying Musicians Association, a national nonprofit organization of “Pilot Musicians sharing their passion while encouraging and educating youth (and adults) in the science and art of aeronautics and music.” The FMA sponsors scholarships for high school musicians that provide initial training and materials all the way through their first solo flight. “Airlines and the military have long recognized the properties of musicians that work well in the cockpit,” says John Zapp, co-founder and President of FMA. “Crew management, resource management, multitasking, even crisis management–they are all attributes of both successful musicians and pilots.” As evidence of this, many successful pilot-musicians, and famous musician-pilots, are FMA members.Heaven’s Landing is continuing and taking on the entire event, providing fun and entertainment for northeast Georgia’s Piedmont and beyond; pilots will be flying in from all over the country to take in the scenery, amenities, and the concert. In fact, Heaven’s Landing was featured internationally on Discovery Channel’s “The Aviators.” (Click here to watch it now, or go to the FMA website to view several additional videos that feature Heaven’s Landing and the fly-in lifestyle.)For additional information, call 800/432-8362 or email info@heavenslanding.com
